BelEve is an award-winning girls’ charity committed to inspiring the next generation of female leaders. For over 14 years, BelEve has supported girls and young women aged 8–22 through mentoring, leadership development, emotional wellbeing support, employability pathways, and community programmes.
BelEve is now entering a new strategic chapter centred around its Readiness Vision:

Our work focuses on supporting girls to develop across five core readiness domains:

As we scale our impact and strengthen our organisational infrastructure, we are seeking an experienced and values-driven HR Trustee to support the development of a high-performing, inclusive, psychologically safe, and mission-aligned organisation.
Purpose of the Role:
The HR Trustee will provide strategic oversight, guidance, and challenge on all matters relating to people, culture, organisational development, leadership capability, and workforce wellbeing.
The postholder will support BelEve in building a sustainable and inclusive organisational culture that reflects its mission, values, safeguarding responsibilities, and readiness-led approach. This role is particularly important as BelEve continues to evolve its organisational structure, strengthen leadership accountability, and develop systems that enable both staff and young women to thrive.
The HR Trustee will act as a critical friend to the CEO and Board on:
People strategy
Organisational culture
Leadership development
Workforce wellbeing
Governance and HR compliance
Equity, diversity and inclusion
Performance and accountability frameworks
Role & Responsibilities
As HR Trustee, you will provide strategic oversight, guidance, and constructive challenge across all matters relating to people, culture, and organisational development. You will act as a critical friend to the CEO and Board, helping BelEve build the systems, leadership, and culture needed for long-term impact.
You will advise on:
- People strategy and workforce planning
- Organisational culture and leadership development
- Workforce wellbeing and staff engagement
- HR governance, employment law, and compliance
- Equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Performance and accountability frameworks
Key Responsibilities
Strategic People Leadership
- Support development and oversight of BelEve’s People & Culture strategy
- Advise on organisational design, succession planning, and leadership capability
- Help embed a high-performance culture aligned to BelEve’s values and readiness vision
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure strong HR governance, policies, and employment practices are in place
- Oversee compliance with employment legislation and safeguarding responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight of organisational risk relating to people and culture
Culture & Wellbeing
- Champion a psychologically safe, inclusive, and empowering working environment
- Support staff wellbeing, engagement, accountability, and retention
- Encourage approaches that promote belonging and healthy workplace dynamics
Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
- Embed EDI and anti-discriminatory practice across the organisation
- Ensure organisational culture reflects the communities BelEve serves
Board Contribution
- Attend quarterly Board meetings and contribute to relevant subcommittees
- Provide constructive challenge and strategic insight
- Act as an ambassador for BelEve and its mission
Candidate Requirements
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who believes in the power and potential of girls and young women — and understands that strong organisations create stronger outcomes for communities.
Essential:
- Senior-level HR, People, Culture, OD, or Workforce expertise
- Experience advising at strategic or executive level
- Strong understanding of employment law, culture, and people governance
- Track record in organisational change, leadership development, or culture transformation
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, safeguarding, and youth empowerment
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide supportive challenge
Desirable:
- Experience in the charity, education, youth, or social impact sectors
- Previous Trustee or Non-Executive Director experience
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice or psychologically safe cultures
- Understanding of the challenges impacting girls and young women today
